Mandela Day is celebrated across South Africa, honouring the life, struggles, and triumphs of Tata Madiba. We are very familiar with the 67 Minutes initiative in which South Africans dedicate their time to charity, volunteering, and making Nelson Mandela proud. With social upliftment being a value at our core, Energy Drive was excited to participate and make our own contribution on the day.

Our team chose to dedicate our 67 Minutes to the Ikhethelo Children’s Village, where we rolled up our sleeves, donned our hardware caps, and grabbed our paint brushes.

The Ikhethelo Children’s Village, located in Bothas Hill, has been providing a loving home and caring for at-risk children for more than 20 years. Ikhethelo provides a nurturing environment for up to 50 orphaned and vulnerable children, giving them hope, access to education, and the opportunity to lead a successful life.

The Energy Drive team, led by James Hynd (Energy Drive CEO), volunteered to give the Ikhethelo Children’s Village facilities some TLC, undertaking to give rooms and cupboard doors a fresh coat of paint as well as provide a delicious lunch and spending time with the wonderful children. Finding opportunities to enrich the lives of those in underserved communities is deeply rooted in the Energy Drive ethos, and we’re grateful to Graeme and Tami Wright, and the rest of the incredible team at Ikhethelo Children’s Village for their tireless work in creating better lives for the young children in their care.

As a key pillar of ESG, social impact is entrenched in our culture. We truly believe that we have a responsibility towards the development and social upliftment of our communities while making a sustainable difference in the world.
